Kurgan Compass™ is a legendary online magazine in the making focused on the darker side of culture. We write of neofolk, film & series, metal, games, and strange but true stories.

If you are enthusiastic about the darker side of entertainment and would like to contribute neofolk and metal articles send us your CV and include writing samples. You will write of Nordic/Norse-rooted neofolk artists like Danheim, Wardruna, Draugablíkk, Danheim, and SKÀLD. In heavy metal, we cover pagan/black/folk like Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, HULKOFF, and (the Maori sensation) Alien Weaponry.

Also, if you dig Nicki Minaj, Joe Rogan, Eric Clapton, and Bill Maher coming out against the establishment — you are most definitely one of us.

Kurgan Compass™ is not news-focused which is part of why it calls itself a magazine. Kurgan Compass™ has an ambition: To recreate the pleasant, “mental flow” experience/quality of reading an actual (excellent and well-made) physical magazine.

Pitchkid’s word rate varies and we mostly use PayPal. For new writers, we pay 0.05 USD per word, and once we have confirmed you a writer is well-oiled enough to stay onboard the Kurgan (takes 2-6 months depending on the individual), the payment goes up — usually to 0.075 USD, then onto 0.10, and after that to 0.15-0.30 USD. Note that higher word rates are for reliable writers who have been with us for 2+ years — Pitchkid values loyalty above all.

Finally — Kurgan Compass™ is also looking for a movie reviewer to cover films like The Pig and Cry Macho.

p.s. Kurgan Compass™ is owned and operated by Emberdome Media, a client of Pitchkid (we also help Emberdome manage yestermade.com, another entertainment site focused on retro culture.)
